  1. Navigate to Settings > Permalinks
  2. Select Custom Structure.
  3. Remove %category% from Custom Structure.
  4. Click on Save Changes.

Just like below, you can use only /%postname%/ in your custom structure or you can choose “Post Name”.

Method #2: Remove Category Base From URL [Using Plugin]

In most of the cases, method 1 will work as expected. But in case you want to remove category base from category pages then using a plugin is a good option:



  1. Navigate to Plugins -> Add New
  2. Search For Remove Category URL.
  3. Install and Activate the plugin.

Method #3: Remove Category Base From URL [Using Yoast]

If you’re using Yoast SEO plugin then you can easily remove category base from Yoast setting and no need to install any additional plugin on your website.

  1. Navigate to SEO > Search Appearances
  2. Select Taxonomies.
  3. Scroll down you’ll see Category URLs
  4. Toggle to Remove
  5. Click on Save Changes.
